Quinoa Veggie Salad

One of my favorite side dishes and salads to make involves good ole’ quinoa and some veggies. Super simple, really quick, and tastes like something you’ve worked on all day. I’m sharing my quinoa veggie salad recipe here:

  • Cook quinoa as per instructions. Add Celtic salt, turmeric, and cayenne pepper.
  • Saute onions
  • Chop up all fresh peppers except for green, red onions, green onions, and lots of dill.
  • Cube avocado
  • Mix everything into the quinoa as it is WITHOUT cooking any of the veggies (I leave the veggies raw in order to keep all the nutrients and vitamins alive)

It’s as simple as that! Enjoy your Monday night dinner 🙂

Cayenne Pepper on that please!

When I want to add a little heat and flare to my dishes, there is only one spice I turn to and it’s one that so many people may already have as part of their spice collection; cayenne pepper. I add it to everything and anything that calls for a little extra spice and heat and besides the amazing flavor it adds, the benefits make it all the more worth while to cook with.

Global Healing Center gives a precise breakdown of a few of the health benefits including:

  • cayenne peppers anti-irritant properties
  • anti-cold and flu remedy
  • helps and prevent fungal pathogens
  • prevention of migraine headaches
  • anti-allergen
  • digestive aid
  • anti -redness properties
  • helps in the production of saliva
  • useful for blood clots
  • helps the body with detoxing
  • joint-pain reliever
  • has many anti-bacterial properties
  • some studies even show it can be an anti-cancer agent
  • supports weight loos and heart health
  • toothache remedy
  • Also a topical remedy for the skin to treat bites, sores, and wounds

7-Day Cabbage Soup Diet

With Passover quickly approaching; I know I will be surrounded by family, food, and more food. When it comes to such a rich holiday where the eating is hard core everyday, I like to enter the holiday a few pounds lighter.

My solution is a 7-day cabbage soup diet. This diet helps cut calories, bad sugar, and starches. This is one of the lighter diets that is recommended to try to kick start your metabolism into a healthier cycle. The best part about cabbage soup is that you can eat as much of it as you want, whenever you want (even at night) and you will not gain extra pounds. I personally do not like to be kept hungry while dieting; I simply cannot starve myself while running around all day and interacting with my clients so this is my ideal solution.

I will be keeping this diet for 7 days and then responsibly indulging in the goodness Passover has to offer. Keeping a balanced diet after the holiday is key to keeping the weight off. There are many recipes that you can search for but one in particular that I like comes from Divas Can Cook and features a soup that is loaded with tons of veggies.

Try out the diet and let me know your results! I’ll keep everyone posted on my progress from diet to holiday and back again 🙂

#WCW Inspiration – Maya Mia, MUA

Screen Shot 2014-09-22 at 5.05.15 AM

Today is not only a day to post my women crush of the week but to actually tell you guys why I love her so much. Maya Mia has been my inspiration and crush for years now and has helped me become a better makeup artist in my career. Her work ethic shines through in my own work and inspires me to give my clients the best of the best.

Maya Janeska, better known in the makeup blogging community as Maya Mia is a self taught inspiration from Tanzania, East Africa. Her most impressive quality is coming from a place where makeup artistry is kind of a ghost path and yet she had a will and found a way to stretch her talents through her YouTube videos, Instagram feed, and Facebook page and grabbed the hearts of makeup artists and fans around the world, even reaching the attention of Anastasia Beverly Hills, who is, till this day a huge supporter of her work. The two collaborated on a palette inspired by the colors of Maya’s home.

I absolutely love that she cares about every single one of her fans and subscribers and that she talks to the audience while teaching. Maya Mia puts her time and every last effort into her tutorial videos for the most amazing and gorgeous results. Her family’s art history shines through in everything she does on herself and her clients. During an interview with Jill Russel on Beautylish Maya Mia said “I never pre-plan my looks, I just look at the palette and let my imagination guide me. Don’t be afraid to play with color. It’s only when you do that that you’ll find your perfect combination.”

My Restart Button

bundle_3_4 After my vacation, I gained some extra pounds thanks to all the relaxing, lounging around, eating all the delicious food that Israel has to offer, and just enjoying the environment. I have a plan for the week to get me back in shape and back to a healthier routine. This first week is critical and I wanted to share what I plan on doing and maybe get some support from everyone 🙂

  • Tuesday:  Fast
  • Wednesday & Thursday: Juice cleanse
  • Friday: Juice cleanse & Back to the gym

Fingers crossed that I last all week! I am also sharing below the juice cleanse I will be doing: http://www.jusbyjulie.com/the-jus-cleanse.html This juice cleanse is amazing for the simple reason that it is like a restart button for the body. It rids the body of toxins, which takes away bloating and discomfort. All of the juices are filled with nutrients that give the body what it needs while taking away cravings during the day and helping with weight loss. I won’t need to stop my hectic day at all while on this cleanse; which is why I love it even more 🙂

Dairy Free Life

Today my home is completely dairy-free and there is a reason for that; it is a positive one and one that has changed my life around. I used to suffer from rheumatoid arthritis and sought out treatment after treatment until I was advised by a healer to begin eliminating dairy from my diet and go in search of a substitute that would give me the nutrients and all the good calcium I was lacking. The day that I stopped consuming dairy is the day that I got my life and health back. If you don’t believe my reasons, take a look at a few accounts where milk has done more harm than good.
Miranda Barzey, wrote an entrance in the “Modern Paleo: The blog” about the day she cut out dairy from her diet and the wonders it did to heal her eczema. Dr. Mark Hyman, an American physician and author focuses on the truth about dairy and what many of us may have not known. A few facts he mentions is that dairy may actually increase fractures in the body. He also mentions that countries with the lowest rates of dairy and calcium consumption (like those in Africa and Asia) have the lowest rates of osteoporosis. He goes into detail in his blog post.

According to Baseline of Health Foundation, removing dairy from the diet has been shown to shrink enlarged tonsils and adenoids, indicating relief for the immune system by reducing Circulating Immune Complexes. This would be a preventative measure for going under surgery.

The elimination of dairy has personally improved my way of life. Today both my children and me are living a healthier lifestyle with dairy substitutes and getting all the calcium we need from products such as almond milk, coconut milk, and many other non-dairy and vegan products.

Let me know what you think and if you believe this is the best lifestyle to adapt to.

Have a beautiful weekend everyone!!
